Those who share, have something to give.

Those who share not, have nothing.

The fool will not look.
The lay cannot see.
The intellect will look.
The wise see.

Ear plugs made of ego, make the fool.

The wise prune the dead limbs by choice.

The fool go out on dead limb and prune by accident.

The fool cannibalizes their soul to feed their ego.

If there is no self-accountability given, there is no responsibility taken.

Ego is a gift held by fools and a burden lost by the wise.

A bully has back-up to compensate for an ego that otherwise has no defense.

The fool bystander fears the aggressor only when they have personal profit to gain.

I See You
Without your makeup
Without your muscles
With the bags under your eyes
With the softness in your thighs,
I see you.
Without your stoic self
Without your unapologetic self
With your hidden tears
With your vulnerable self,
I see you.
Past the violence you commit
For the harm you deny
Past the wall you have built
For the fear you feed,
I see you.
Beyond the smoke you toke
Beyond the drink you take
Through pain that feigns laughter
Though uncertainty that belies confidence,
I see you.
Despite your failures
Not in spite of your successes
So busy with accomplishments
So boastful of your efforts,
I see you
As the tender soul
As the terrified one
Who strives without
Who struggles onward,
I see you.
Never with an apology
Ever with the denial
Hardly the recognition
Rarely the action,
I see you.
For the day shall come
Only after the night concedes
With only the hope that
you’ll see another, too.

A bat will never see the light.

The fool has much desire to speak and offers little to say.

Until we make efforts for peace, we will make excuses for war.

The fool argue sides, the wise argue issues.

Who explains without end has yet begun to understand.

Who points a finger in blame has nary another point to offer.

In aphorism, proverb, rumination on 20120501 at 23:39

If there exist the privileged and the underdogs, then also exist the underprivileged and the dogs.

《the real fight》

It is not enough that the underdog fights for the underdog.

Who is not afflicted, who is not oppressed, who is not persecuted -is tasked to support the underdog by assisting their fight for equality by opposing inequality.

For whosoever does not apply their ability, in essence, so gives up their ability. Whosoever has a right, but does nothing to extend and fight for all to have this right, so upholds a wrong.

The privileged condone by overlooking, condemn by standing by. The war of injustice is fueled by disregard, and the fight against injustice begins only when the privileged stand up for -and fight with- the underdog.

So, do not fight for your cause alone. Do not voice only that which concerns you. Do fight the wars that persist, large and small, for one and for all.

Because we are all the privileged, if not in one way, than in another. And we are all the underdog, if not today, then someday.

In aphorism, proverb, rumination on 20111215 at 23:34

Ability, without acting on the ability, is perhaps a greater disability than to never have had the ability.

If another is in need, and I do not help -I have so wasted an opportunity to exercise my ability, and in doing so, I have given up my ability. I am without ability.

A few create the system.
Many perpetuate the system.
Some work the system.
Too few challenge the system.

History shapes us.
Culture enables us.
Humanity entitles us.
Choice defines us.

I am as much a product of my own choice as I am of genetics or environment.

The desert dweller prays for rain, but is prepared not for the storm.

The fool waits for the rains to sow his seeds.

The fool tames a beast he cannot feed.

Fantasy is the reality of the fool.

To judge another’s rationale is simply to impose one’s own motive upon another’s actions.

Climax not without the crescendo; lo, the fool is clueless, the wise is cognizant of.

Life, ’tis a puzzle.

Cast a worm, catch a fish.
[Other times, cast a worm, drown a worm.]

The fool act without understanding.
The lay do not act, understanding only of consequence.
The dilettante do not act, understanding not of impact.
The wise act with understanding of impact.

Consequence impels the fool; impact propels the wise.

Hold experience dearly, opinions loosely.

Project that which is beneficial to others;
Retain that which is worthy of possession;
Relinquish all else.

The wise balance output with input, teaching with learning, giving with receiving, apology with forgiveness.

Prudence in opinion, abundance in perception.

Share candid opinions as you would fresh onions -sparingly and with consideration.

From the valley, espy the peak.

Cash not backed by gold is but pretty paper.

20110714

In aphorism, proverb on 20110714 at 19:20

The fool live an illusion; the wise live a dream.

The fool fear only what he will lose by sharing, not realizing what is to be gained by giving.

The fool fear loss and so do not share, do not give, and so too, have no room to receive. The wise lose fear and so share, give freely, and so too, are unburdened and able to receive.

It is impossible to hold both compassion and anger in the same heart.

It takes but two to create a movement: one to start it, another to follow it.

For every seed that sprouts, the earth is never more the same.

20110711

In aphorism, proverb on 20110711 at 23:28

It is not enough to not hurt another on purpose; we must love one another with purpose.

20110301

In aphorism, poetry, proverb on 20110301 at 20:15

To satisfy an urge is elementary; to create desire is the grail.

To meet demand is rudimentary; to create demand is legendary.

A confession made to another is not without an admission made first to the self.

Words read, speak to the imagination;
Thoughts spoken, touch the heart;
Feelings expressed, define the voice.

An epiphany is a revelation of sight to the seeking.

The opposite of fragrant is not foul, but insipid.

A stone is but a jewel’s throw away; a jewel is but a stone’s throw away.

The fool keep the stone and so lose the jewel.

Covetous is cowardice.

A star shines despite the hour or the audience.

The heart transcends
a thousand places, lo, the feet occupy
but one.

The quantifiable may be counted, but lack opposites; the qualifiable possess opposites, but are not to be counted.

In aphorism, proverb, quote, rumination on 20101127 at 15:54

Men of fear unite; men of courage disband.

One dog smells a fellow dog.

A fool sacrifices tomorrow -a day he does not have, for today -a day he will never have again.

Freedom is like oxygen –most appreciated in its absence.

Development is incremental change in the direction of progress.

Ore must be smelted before metal is poured.

A dirty diner let’s another do his dishes.

Ideas alone cannot realize inspiration; only ideas coupled with action give birth to inspiration.

《On Fear》
It is said that fear can be smelled; I say that fear stinks.

20101117

In aphorism, proverb, rumination on 20101117 at 10:18

Short words are always long on feeling.

The art of accepting a compliment is humble denial.

A fool lavishes flattery, the wise bestow compliments.

One’s words are like stones, to be thrown at another or used to build another up.

One’s energy blows like the wind, destructively against a wall or constructively against a windmill.

A windmill rolls with the wind, not against it, and so exploits false opposition to gain true momentum.

Only with friction, does anything gain traction.

《on walls》
May any border, any wall constructed, be made with deliberation and great skill, such that when at last we soften to the wisdom of history and realize the foolishness that is cemented with each mortaring of every brick, we may retain and also preserve a symbol of foolishness overcome, to remind us that a wall should not divide two peoples, but span the divide -so as to join them.
